Death Penalty

The conservative view on the death penalty is that it is okay. If somebody kills someone, they should receive the same punishment. They took an innocent life and now theirs will be spared. The liberal view is that it is wrong. An execution is the same thing as murder. I definatly agree with the liberal view. Sometimes they can execute someone and they are innocent. Also, even if they are guilty they can change their life around.

Gun Control

I wasn't in school. I was at sectionals.

Gay Marriage

Gay Marriage was my group. Me, Michele, and Sam expressed the liberal viewpoint while Dino and Hyung expressed the conservative viewpoint. The liberal view is that gay people should be allowed to get married. They aren't doing any harm to anyone. It doesn't affect people that are against gay marriage. It is none of their business. The conservative view is that gay people shouldn't be allowed to get married. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Also, Christians argue that it is against the bible. I think that gays should be allowed to get married. It is just a title and it affects no one but themselves.

Pro-Life or Pro-Choice

The liberals perspective of abortion is pro-choice. They believe that there are various scenarios that happen created pregnancy. This crazy scenarios should give the mother the choice to abort her baby. The conservatives believe in pro-life. They think that abortion is the same thing as murder. The pregnant women should have to take responsibility for her actions. I personally think that abortion is okay. If the baby hasn't passed the third trimester, I don't understand what the big deal is. The baby hasn't even developed yet.

"For you I'd bleed myself dry"

My favorite song by Coldplay is Yellow from the album Parachutes. The denotations tell us that the song is about finding that person that you would do anything for. You would bleed yourself dry as Chris Martin says. I didn't understand why he talks about yellow so much. But I realized the conotation is that love makes him shine so it is yellow. His lover is shinning to thats why everything is yellow. He would do anything to see her shine.
I really liked this song at first because of the way it sounded, not the lyrics. But after deciphering the lyrics I like it even more. It is a great song and I feel that everyone can relate to it. There is/will be someone that you would do anything for. They make you feel good and you want to be with them all the time.

The 2 Trillion Dollar War

I think that Coldplay definitely represents the values of our generation. They are a big component of "change." They turned down multi-million dollar contracts from Gatorade, Diet Coke, and Gap because "we wouldn't be able to live with ourselves if we sold the songs' meanings like that." They are a big supporter of Amnesty International, a popular non-profit group that protects human rights.
Coldplay openly opposes the war in Iraq and talks about it in their music. Also, Coldplay gives ten percent of the band's profits to charity. People in society are worried about the direction we are going in. We are resisting what is happening today and asking for "change." Coldplay wants change and they help create better society everyday.

My Parent's Time?!

The psychedelic years of rock in the 1960s and 1970s were crazy. I don't think it helped that LSD was legal. Also, at this time I think our society was new to drug use and the government and police officials didn't know what to do about it. Today there are harsh punishments and it still takes place in rock but it isn't as popular.
I really liked how the musicians of this time spoke what was on their mind. They called out the government and it was a way of free speech that was getting mainstreamed. Today there is less criticism of the government through music and right now we need it the most the way the White House is being run.

My First Date

I was obsessed with Blink-182 when I was a little kid. My godfather got me all of their old cd's for Christmas because I already had Enema of the State. My favorite person in the band is Travis Barker who plays the drums. For being so skinny, I don't understand how he can bang the drums so hard for so long. There is a video of him with a remix to "Crank Dat" on YouTube and it is incredible.
I went to a concert in 7th grade at the Allstate Arena with my friends. The energy from watching a live show is amazing. I still listen to Blink 182 today even though they are no longer a band.
